Tauqir Sadiq Physical Remand


ISLAMABAD: The accountability court on Tuesday granted ten days extension in the physical remand of former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chairman Tauqir Sadiq, who is the accused in a Rs82 billion scam case, Geo News reported.


The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had sought 14 days extension in the physical remand of the accused, however, the court approved ten days extension.

The court, then, instructed the authority to present Tauqir Sadiq again on August 2.

Tauqir Sadiq was presented in the accountability court today after his initial 14-day physical remand duration expired. During the hearing, Sadiq told the court that he has been subjected to torture during the investigation process.

The former OGRA chairman was placed on a 14-day physical remand following the request of the NAB prosecutor in the earlier hearing.

He had earlier alleged that NAB officials were threatening to break his legs, if he didn't say in court what has been dictated to him. Sadiq informed the court that he was being wrongly accused and that prominent personalities were involved in the scandal. “I will reveal details of these allegations against me and the individuals involved soon.”

The court had directed that Sadiq be medically examined after his assault allegations.

ECP Asks Political Parties to Submit Asset details by August 29 ( Election Commission of Pakistan )

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked political parties to submit a consolidated statement of accounts of the party‚ duly audited by a chartered accountant by August 29, 2013.


A certificate signed by the party leader must accompany the statement of accounts stating that no funds from any source prohibited under the Political Parties Order‚ 2002‚ were received by the party and the statement contains an accurate financial position of the party.

Electoral symbols would not be allotted to the political parties who failed to submit their asset details to the ECP.

Government officials involved with electricity thieves: PM Nawaz Sharif


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Tuesday that the majority of his time was being spent on resolving the energy crisis and government officials were involved with electricity thieves.


Speaking to senior journalists, the prime minister added that he had asked the provinces to take action against individuals who were stealing electricity. The prime minister reiterated that resolving the energy crisis was the government’s top priority. “We discussed this at length during the Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting and the provinces have asked for more time to hold consultations over the energy policy.”

According to Prime Minister Sharif it was essential to control electricity theft and legislation in this regard would be approved soon.

The prime minister claimed that circular debt had been finished and subsidies would be provided 70 million living under the poverty line. “The Rs 150 billion will continue.”

Prime Minister Sharif further said that headway had been made on the Basha Dam and repairs on electricity transmission lines were required. Mr Sharif attributed tripping as the reason for power outages during Sehri and Iftar.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Shireen Mazari said Tuesday the party was consulting lawyers to file a defamation lawsuit against the MQM.


Speaking to Geo News, Mazari said a defamation case of up to Rs 10 billion would be filed against the MQM, who earlier filed a defamation case against PTI chairman Imran Khan. Mazari added that statements made by MQM leaders had affected the credit of her party leadership.

According to Mazari a final decision would be made after Imran Khan returned from London
